Your Questions Answered

I've received several emails over the past few days and it seems that most people want to know twothings that I have failed to include in this blog. 1) How do you like motherhood? and 2) How big did you get?

To answer your first question, motherhood has so far been the experience of a lifetime. In all honesty, I always thought it would take me a good 3, 4 YEARS to adjust to being a mother, but I think I've already gotten the hang of it! Fortunately my little boys are extremely easy to love so that's helped a lot.
And as for question number 2, scroll down. This is actually about 2 weeks before I delivered.

3 hours 45 minutes...

That's how long it will take me to type this entry as one of my hands is holding a sleeping baby:)Actually 3 hours and 45 minutes is how long the boys slept last night. That's right, from 2:45 to 6:30! It's the longest stretch of sleep they've had since they came home. Unfortunately I failed to take advantage of this golden opportunity to get an extra snooze because after 2.5 hours I was busy watching the clock, wondering if they were starving and doing random "nose-checks" to make sure they were still breathing. Everything was fine.

I don't know if this was a fluke or if this can really be attributed to the technique I tried from The Happiest Baby on the Block. I got the book yesterday and decided to try a couple of tips that night. One mistake we were making was failing to establish a bedtime for the boys. Now I know what you must be thinking: a bedtime for a 5 week old is absurd and bordering abusive. I thought the same thing. But before you make that call to CPS, keep reading. The idea is to have baby spend his daylight hours in a well lit room with TV on, loud talking, everyday activities, etc. At the time that you would eventually like your older infant to be put to bed (for us it will be 8), you move baby to his sleeping quarters, turn out the lights, and put him in his bed. From that point until the next morning (daylight), all feedings and diaperings are done in the dark and with minimal stimulation. I tried it last night and things went really smoothly. I also used a night light (okay, a cracked bathroom door) instead of the television which I think helped as well. Whatever the case, we all had a great night and woke up feeling quite refreshed.

I finally got my hands on a working computer (and I promise not to break this one)! Actually, it was purchased for me today by my dear sweet husband (thanks, toots). Just to let you guys know, everything is going great. We're on somewhat of a schedule of feeding every 2 to 2.5 hours and occasionally 3 hour stretches at night. We haven't confused them yet and we've only dropped them once...kidding:) All in all, this has been the most amazing 5 weeks of my life! The boys are changing every day.

Weights as of Friday 7/20-

Braxton: 8 lbs 2 oz.
Caleb: 6 lbs 12 oz.

Here are a few things regarding parenting that I previously thought to be impossible...I was wrong.

1. It is possible to actually forget to eat
2. It is possible to fall asleep while nursing a baby
3. It is possible to avoid smushing said baby whilst sleeping
4. It is possible to somehow justify not showering for 3 days in a row
5. It is possible (however, not at all graceful) to clutch two sleeping babies in your arms
6. It is possible to have a ten minute conversation about the amount, color, and consistency of poop found in a diaper

Who'd have thunk it?!

It's Been A While!

As most of you know by now...Our little boys are here!!! Braxton Michael and Caleb Riley were born on Sunday, June 17th at 2:45 and 2:46 p.m. Their weights were 5lb8oz and 4lb10oz. respectively.

I will eventually post the complete birth story, but as I am towards the end of my 2.5 hour break between feedings, now is not a good time. In a nutshell, we didn't quite make it to our June 19th date due to a Twin Twin Transfusion Syndrome scare. I elected to have a C-Section the Sunday before our scheduled Tuesday delivery. The delivery was kink-free and a far more pleasant experience than I had anticipated. The boys spent 9 days in the NICU to gain weight and maintain their body temperatures outside the isolettes. They have been home with us for one whole week and it's been the best week of our lives. We are so grateful to have them here and healthy. There are a million other details I'd love to share that I just don't have time to post at the moment. I will try my best to add more some time next week (pictures too). Again, I can't thank you all enough for the support (and supplies:)) you have given us. We couldn't have done it without you.
